Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction recently completed the replacement of a TCS(Turbine Control System) for Hanbit #2 Nuclear Power Plant. Doosan has supplied a new control system series to the market since 2012, and on 2015 won the TCS retrofit contract for Hanbit #1 and #2 by competition with earlier suppliers – Westinghouse and Emerson. By the result, Doosan achieved 100% manufacturing capability for nuclear power plants.
In this project, existing dual redundant controllers had been replaced with new TMR(Triple Modular Redundant) controllers to improve the control for 1,000 MW steam turbine’s speed and power generation. And to enhance the safety of the power plant, SIL3(Safety Integrity Level, IEC 61508) controllers are used which has been certified by TUV for turbine overspeed protection.
Doosan has been developed their TMR controllers based on straton workbench technologies for years. Doosan said, “Our control system’s huge flexability and clear integrity are proven well by commercial operation of Hanbit #2. With STRATON AUTOMATION, we have established increasing the productivity of products and decreasing the time to market.”
Doosan continues the supply for Hanbit #1 in December 2020 and for another 9 units for replacing GE Mark V controllers for Hanul, Hanbit, and Wolseong nuclear power plants. These plants’ TCS retrofits are scheduled until December 2022.
