Since 2014, SENECA has adopted straton as Soft PLC platform-independent on both its standard IEC 61131-3 controllers and devices supporting IEC 60870-5-101/104 and IEC 61850 protocols.
Let’s look at them briefly.
The Multifunction Controllers.
SENECA controllers are compact multifunction devices based on straton IEC 61131-3 platform. These units include web server, datalogger, gateway and ModBUS pass-through features combining MQTT/IoT/Cloud connectivity with programmable automation even in 4.0 complex architectures.
Developed on Linux kernel, now all the range (Z-TWS11, Z-TWS4, S6001-RTU, Z-PASS2-S) host the straton development environment.
SENECA controllers are also capable of RTU/ Gateway functions, ModBUS RTU ModBUS TCP conversion, virtual networking via the Internet, and point-to-point tunneling.
They also handle redundant control for plant automation, energy monitoring, management of renewable energy plants (biomass, photovoltaic, wind, etc.), and smart grid management.
Configurable as web servers and as TCP-IP nodes, they are open to SCADA/EMS/WEB-based supervision platforms.
In complementary form, IEC 61850 provides a consistent standard unifying substation automation and distributed generation power, from switching equipment to control and monitoring functions.

Edge Computing
In recent times, SENECA has also integrated straton into the most innovative Edge Computing solutions with data processing directly on the device or in nearby servers :
R-PASS systems also performs high-performance multifunction control tasks capable of combining PLC functionality with advanced routing and remote access.
Support for the http post, MQTT(s) and OPC protocols makes these Edge devices true IIoT (Industrial IoT) controllers, which system integrators and machine builders can leverage to quickly derive data from machines and plants communicating via industrial Ethernet or fieldbus, and then relay that data back to IT/ IoT systems easily and securely.
Edge Controllers are also available for this product line with support for IEC 60870-101/104 and IEC 61850 communication protocols, used for monitoring electrical substations and transformer substations and more generally for remote control in utilities.

“We chose straton for our products because of its reliability. Our customers themselves have testified to us the ease, versatility of use and not least the “lightness” of the development environment. We at Seneca greatly appreciate the technical background of the entire development and support team. We hope for continued growth of the mutual collaboration that began in 2014 and is now well established.”
